Winter

So far we've had a mild winter here in South Dakota, which is pretty rare. We've heard that usually it gets much, much worse so we're half thankful, and half missing the snow we are so used to.

We got a little excited hearing on the weather channel that our area would be in a winter storm advisory (for the past 3 days). That was, until... the wind came. The wind here in the Northern Plains is torture. The wind is a problem for a few reasons...

1. It makes the already frigid temperatures outside feel even colder. It was Zero degrees out (no joke) with wind chills of 25-35 degrees BELOW zero. Brrrr!


2. It blows all of the snow in all different directions so it is hard to see while driving.

3. It blows all of the snow on our street in a certain way so it perfectly packs itself into snow drifts. They block our front door and garage door to the point where we literally can't get out of our house.

4. Our sliding glass doors that open to the deck are not sealed very well so the wind blows snow INSIDE our home!



So yeah, not so fun. Don't get me wrong, we love the Winter and love snow.. we just hate the wind that ruins the all the fun of it.


On New Year's Eve we had plans to go to a friends house for a party, but because of the weather, the base roads were changed to a condition level of Red. This means only necessary driving is allowed, and if you are to drive, you have to follow a strict speed limit of 10 mph (5mph in residential areas). Bummer! So instead, we stayed at home playing Scrabble and watching lots and lots of stuff on Netflix. Even though it was a bummer to not be able to go out and have fun with friends, I am super grateful that Jeremy and I were together and safe. That's all that really matters anyway :)
